The Dune is a thematic hotel designed to cater to the growing demand for long stay destinations with soul and comfort where cultures, ideas and people merge with one another. It is Located on the Coramandel coast of Tamil Nadu, South India, 150 km south of Chennai (Madras) and just 15 Kms from the heart of Pondicherry.
The Dune cherishes the spirit "to live in harmony with nature and men". For ages, swamis (Holy Men) from the nearby temples of Mahabalipuram used this scenic beach reserve as a place of pilgrimage and meditation.
Being Responsible
The Dune is actively involved with the local communities in the field of education and local capacity building. These activities are carried out under an Indian trust « Children of The World India » in association with "Enfants du monde", France. CWI is supported by many individual donors and the French Red Cross. The property is partner of the catering workshop of the Vocational Training Institute based in Chennai. The Dune staff kitchen located back side of the Tennis court is managed completely by the school and 50 students are getting permanently trained within the hotel premises.
The Dune has 7 acres of Farm land where crop diversification is undertaken in order to produce as much as possible vegetable, pulse, rice and fruits for Fun restaurant and the Seafood Bar.
The Dune is the base for AIR (Artists In Residence) a programme providing work studios for Artists from all around the world: it is a space dedicated to creativity and culture since 2002. It acts as a hub for international artists to live, meet, work and to discover India, its artists and craftsmen. AIR is much more than a link between east and west, it encourages artists to experiment with different mediums, move from brush to shovel, from paint to stone....
How you will reside
The bungalows (30 aesthetic villas and 20 rooms) are sparsely spread and discreetly hidden over 30 acres and 700m of beach front. Each one is of a unique inspiration, furniture, size, facility, ranging from ones for couples to ones for families or friends with lounge and private gardens. They are known for their commitment to reduce the impact on the environment and are partly built using reclaimed building material from South Indian Colonial houses, Chettinad palaces and Kerala planter’s mansions. They are fully equipped with Solar hot water system, low comsuption bulbs and Waste Water Treatment Plant. Not all the accommodation have air conditioning for environmental reasons.
How you will eat
The 2 restaurants serve healthy gourmet fusion food, prepared using organically farmed vegetables. A family atmosphere prevails here always. This encourages people to meet, chat and interact with each other. The Chef loves an exchange with the customer, so guests can feel free to speak to him for any special meal requests: he will do his best to cater to every needs. Guests are also most welcome to teach the chef a special recipe.

Guests at The Dune can experience a large range of activities like SPA wellness therapies and massages, Health club, Yoga and Meditation, Bicycle, Tennis, Volley Ball, 2 km in-house jogging track, Golf Putting lawn, Boating, Horse riding, Kite flying, Tables games, Book library, DVD library with more than 1500 movies and a suspended swimming pool with a large deck overlooking our 700 mt of beach and the Bay of Bengal.
For the smaller ones, thera are many options like milking the cows in the Animal Husbandry with rabbit, birds, chickens, ducks…, a Children play house with a large choice of tables games, a Children playground and Children Swimming Pool, Children cycles, Pottery, DVD library…
The Wellness Choice
Paradise Spa has been created to provide guests with highly effective therapies from all around the world, an international range of ancient healing methods as well as the latest alternative systems of medicine. The SPA is a 8.500 square meter facility including 14 treatments rooms, a Yoga hall, an Ayurvedic pharmacy, a medicinal laboratory, an Aromatherapy steam house, a heated chlorine-free swimming pool, a Multigym, a Spa shop and a Beauty treatment center. The entire structure is surrounded by a beautiful garden of Ayurvedic plants, Aromatherapy herbs and many relaxing areas.
