The Enviroment:
Al Maha Desert Resort & Spa, the centre of Dubai's heritage and conservation efforts, lies nestled within a green and verdant oasis amongst some of Arabia's dune and desert landscapes. Resembling an ancient Bedouin encampment this secluded, internationally-awarded hideaway resort offers personal experiences of the region's history and hospitality, in absolute comfort. Al Maha Desert Resort & Spa is a tribute to traditional life in the Arabian Desert.
Built in the style of an ancient Bedouin settlement, the neutral toned 'tents' shade individual suites of understated, modern luxury. Each private suite is furnished with original, unique and rare collections of regional artwork and antiques.
Being responsible
Al Maha goes far beyond being the perfect holiday destination. Since its inception and its opening in 1999 Al Maha has led the regions' conservation efforts. Large scale habitat rehabilitation programs, including the propagation of over 6,000 indigenous trees, shrubs and grasses, and the re-introduction of the regions' first free-roaming herds of endangered Oryx and many other indigenous wildlife species, Al Maha is an ever-growing haven of protection for the many large and small mammal and bird species of Arabia. The subtle balance between luxury and the preservation of the natural environment forms the core of the offer, and its success has been internationally acknowledged with awards which range from The World Legacy Award from National Geographic, to the Arab Cities Award for Architecture, and Best Environmental Design, well before environmental issues were topical, and seen as critically important.
Out of Al Maha's success the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve (DDCR) was formed, with the resort the centerpiece. Sponsored by Emirates Airline, and managed by Al Maha's dedicated team of Conservation Officers on behalf of the Government of Dubai, we care for and nurture nearly 5% of Dubai's total land area, conserved the remaining wildlife in this, one of the worlds' fastest-developing regions.
