Hotel Orso Grigio 4 ****

Hotel Orso Grigio 4 ****

The Enviroment:

The hotel in San Candido dates back to around 1300 AD. Important names dating back to the early days of South Tyrolean tourism, like those of the innkeeper families Kopfsguter and Hellenstainer, are deeply entwined with the very fabric of this hotel, and have helped shape its history.

The hotel has been owned and operated by family for over 250 years now. Its history has been colourful and eventful; full of good times and bad, with many trials and tribulations and also much success.

Located in the historical town centre, the 'Graue Bär' has witnessed much of the history and development of the village and its surroundings. For hundreds of years, the stagescoaches stopped here; then motorised vehicles drove past the hotel along the main road for many decades. And once the traffic was no longer seen as a sign of life, but rather as a disturbance, a modern pedestrian area was created, bringing peace and tranquility back to the 'Graue Bär'.

Being Responsible

We emphasise sustainability and energy efficiency here at the 'Graue Bär' - all in the interest of conserving our unique environment for future generations. We try to tread lightly and live in harmony with our environment, and are always on the look-out for ways to contribute even more towards the preservation of the environment in general.

Remnants of the past still remain and are well looked after, and modern life has brought its comforts - the result? Historical flair with modern elegance; a unique and precious ambiance, offering a unique, and very special charm. Walls that have withstood hundreds of years and that bear the marks of the passing of time, combined with modern design elements, create an exclusive atmosphere. Less is more - vivid little details and fresh flowers round off the wonderful feeling of well-being, which our guests can experience first-hand.
Over the past decades, three generations of renowned architects have contributed to the style and sense of well-being found in our hotel. In particular: Franz Prey, Arno Gamper, Christoph Mayr-Fingerle and Armin Durnwalder. All of them have left their mark on the 'Graue Bär', and have written a piece of history with us.

How you will reside

What would the elegant rooms and suites in the 'Graue Bär' have to say?                                                           They would whisper sweet nothings, and talk of friendships forged here, and of historic moments: just as varied as the history of our hotel itself, are also the furnishings and design features of the rooms. Lovingly maintained, and furnished with cosy comfort in mind, these rooms are sure to be home to a secret or two. Modern, antique, classical, or Tyrolean – The rooms and suites are magnificent treasure troves of history, and provide that little something extra for well-being, relaxation and sweet dreams.
