Kasbah du Toubkal

Kasbah du Toubkal

The Enviroment:

MOROCCO – Village d'Imil

The Kasbah du Toubkal is an extraordinary venture, the product of an imaginative Berber and European partnership. The Kasbah has been transformed using traditional methods, from the home of a Feudal Caid into an unprecedented haven: The Kasbah du Toubkal is not a hotel in the traditional sense, it is more an extension of the hospitality that stems from the home of the Berbers who run it

Film director Martin Scorsese used this gorgeous converted kasbah as a Tibetan monastery in his 1997 film, Kundun. Sixty-four kilometres south of Marrakech, Kasbah du Toubkal looms large over the surrounding villages from its hilltop perch, encircled by a crown of High Atlas summits, including the loftiest mountain in North Africa, Mount Toubkal.

Being Responsible

Kasbah du Toubkal supports “Education for all Morocco”. Their intention is to give girls the chance of a college education in Morocco, mainly focusing on girls in rural communities. The organisation is in the process of building a boarding school in Asni which will initially be designed to accommodate 24 girls - 8 from each of the 3 years covered by the College curriculum.

The Moroccan National Tourist Office (MNTO) is responsible for promoting and marketing Morocco as a destination within Morocco and abroad.

How you will reside

The Kasbah offers a good range of accommodation options. The 8 private guestrooms offer all the comforts you could want, while the more basic dormitories are ideal for larger groups and for those looking for a budget option. The latest addition is a beautiful house built adjacent to the Kasbah which sleeps 6, making it ideal for families or a group of friends. All rooms, both in the Kasbah and the house, have wonderful views.

How you will eat

Take your place at a low candle-lit table and enjoy the basic Berber rituals which make dining here a pleasure.

Amenities

The Kasbah offers conference facilities, hammam, day excursions from Marrakech, strolls and trekking in the desert. There is also a shop selling local natural products such as musk perfume and walnut-root toothpaste in enamel boxes.
