Being Responsible
Bedarra Island Resort was built built only 2 years ago around huge granite boulders which form part of the organic structure giving it a 180 degree views across the Coral Sea towards Hinchinbrook and the Family Group of Islands from every room in this spectacular retreat.
Bedarra Hideaway creates a unique contrast of contemporary funky designs by award winning architect Chris Van Dyke. The floors are crafted from oiled recycled railway ties and the intricate pattern is reflected in the ceilings which are constructed from bleached logs.
Huge hardwood doors completely retract opening out to a gorgeous verandah and spectacular views you would expect from a paradise like this, the hand carved teak front door was especially imported from Bali and the original island canoe hangs from the ceiling forming a light shade. Owner and famous photographer Peter Lik searched the globe to find unique individual pieces both for character strength and ascetics of this award winning builders retreat.This recovery of old materials and harmony with the landscape has significantly reduced the environmental impact on the island.
How you will reside
The Pavillon Removed from the main resort area, the two Pavilions are set in exclusive, private locations with stunning views over Wedgerock Bay.
The Point Each Point is located in a superb elevated beachside position offering stunning panoramic ocean views over Hernandia Bay.
Double Storey Villas are situated beachfront and with easy access to the central resort facilities and restaurant. Set into the rainforest each Villa offers tree-filtered ocean views.
Hillside Villas are situated in elevated locations close to the beachfront and are set just behind the central resort facilities and restaurant. Set into the lush tropical rainforest each Villa offers filtered inhibited water views.
Split Level Villa Located in private elevated positions, each Villa offers stunning views over Hernandia Bay. The open plan and features an elevated sleeping area and a separate living area.
How you will eat
The food, like the view, would appear to go on forever. Should you have a craving for private dining, we can always help you slip away to a secluded bay with a gourmet hamper and your own dinghy. Whoever said this wasn’t an island of adventure?
At Bedarra, superior wine is something you can take for granted. We understand the difference the right wine makes. Accordingly, an extensive selection of wines is included as part of your Bedarra experience. Names you’ll know and some you’ll enjoy getting to know. The resort’s relaxed lounge features our well known self service bar. You will find it comprehensively stocked with Australian and imported beers, champagne, and a quality selection of Australian wines, spirits and liqueurs.

Wander at your leisure on our walking tracks and discover the secrets of our pristine coastal rainforest, which few have ever known.
Motorised dinghies are available to explore local beaches. You may like to take a fishing rod with you and try your luck, or head to a private beach with a gourmet picnic . There’s also an underwater world to discover.
For those who can’t do without exercise we have Kayaks for two, a floodlit tennis court and a gym.
Indulge in a unique spa resort treatment in the Spa room or in the privacy of your own Villa. The spa therapies at Bedarra have been created to restore unity between the body, mind and spirit. The result is a whole new level of relaxation. Further afield Australia’s Great Barrier Reef is one of the seven natural wonders of the world. Whether you’ll be getting up close and personal with the Great Barrier Reef on a diving trip or relaxing on a boat, there’s something for everyone.
We can have you collected on a 45’ catamaran for a spectacular sail around the local waters.
For the ultimate reef experience, head out on the Calypso Spirit. Available for group and private charters, MV Calypso Spirit is a purpose-built 50’ Twin Hull sports cruiser. Departing directly from Bedarra’s jetty, enjoy a full or half day of fully catered and escorted fishing, diving, snorkelling or scenic tour of the surrounding reef and islands. Advance bookings and deposit are essential.

The Biagurra Spa aptly takes its name from the original name for Bedarra Island. In the local dialect Biagurra means eternal water. . It was mispronounced many years back by the Beachcomber Edmond Banfield and has stayed Bedarra ever since!
