Opened in 1891, to welcome ocean liners on their way to the outposts of the British Empire, Reid’s Palace is one of the world’s most famous hotels, combining grand Edwardian tradition with every modern amenity and comfort. The hotel celebrated its 110th anniversary in November 2001. The hotel is surrounded by 10 acres of landscaped subtropical gardens which feature over 500 species of trees and flowering plants from all over the world

Gourmet meals are created using locally-sourced meat, vegetables and fruit, complemented by fine wines suggested by the sommelier. Visitors will be enchanted by the romantic ambience and spectacular ocean views at Ristorante Villa Cipriani; the regal, Edwardian-style Dining Room is a dignified space boasting luxurious vintage furnishings. Situated on the terrace overlooking the pool, Brisa do Mar offers a gourmet à la carte menu of modern French cuisine; a breakfast buffet is served daily in the Garden Room, offering a mouthwatering selection from fresh local fruit to champagne or a full English breakfast.

There are 2 heated pools, a tennis courts. Water-skiing, windsurfing, deep-sea fishing, diving, paragliding, parasailing,sailing and canoeing are all available nearby. There are also 2 superb 18-hole golf courses - Palheiro Golf and you can also decide to ride nearby and to hike or climb in Madeira’s volcanic mountains

The 5,000-square-foot spa capitalizes on the natural beauty of Madeira with an outdoor relaxation area and a treatment suite with a private terrace. Designed to house treatments for two, the suite contains a plunge pool, hydrotherapy shower, and lounge chairs. Reid's Palace daily program of activities for guests includes Levada walking, visits to the Madeira Wine Lodges, language tuition and other cultural activities.

Reid’s Palace was the vision of William Reid, a Scotsman who dreamed of building a majestic hotel in Madeira away from the winter chills of northern Europe.
