Being Responsible
The resort also prides itself on innovation and offers guests the chance to experience ‘Haruge’, the first traditional Arts and Cultural Centre to be showcased at a Maldivian resort. Local artists demonstrate the production of a variety of crafts, which are available for sale, and guests are also able to sample local delicacies - allowing them to enjoy a real taste of the Maldives.
How you will reside
Beach Villas are dotted along both lengths of the island, opening out onto the fine white sand and azure sea, while an elevated wooden path extends out beyond centre of the eastern shore, splitting into two runs of stilted Water Villas and Grand Water Villas set over the lagoon, all of which feature individual verandas with wooden steps that lead down into the water. All guest villas have spacious bathrooms with an outdoor shower and freeform bath.
The casual elegance of the island is preserved with the choice of natural materials and a colour palette pulled from the sea. The villas have floor-to-ceiling glass and wood doors that slide back to reveal either the beach or a private deck and the amazing turquoise lagoon.
How you will eat
Kanuhura provides cuisines of unimaginable variety: restaurants and bars at the resort include three distinctive restaurants and one bar.
Thin Rah is a large airy restaurant with its fold-back louvre windows, immense thatched roof with inverted funnels letting in the light and air, and outdoor eating area with sand floor and view of the main pool and lagoon, serving the best of European and Asian cuisine for breakfast and dinner. Nightly international buffets with live cooking stations offer an array of cuisines: Maldivian, Indian, Indonesian, Japanese, Oriental, Italian and Continental European.
The Mediterranean-influenced à la carte Olive Tree is open for lunch and dinner. Poolside open-air tables and a breezy interior offer shady refuge by day, while in the evening an intimate atmosphere is created when the lights dim and candlelight glimmers.
Candlelit romance on the shores of the Indian Ocean sets the tone for Veli Café, open for lunch and dinner, with its elegantly decorated timber tables and chairs set amidst the palm trees on the beachside wooden terrace.
The spacious, partly sand-floored Handhuvaru Bar on the other side of the pool from the two main restaurants has been dressed with comfortable over-sized daybeds and chairs both in and outdoors, by the pool and on the beachfront. The interior is with inviting, cosy seating and windows wide-open to the daylight.
